Ruaha National Park

Named for the Great Ruaha River, it is East Africa’s second-largest conservation area, spanning a stunning diversity of ecosystems. Acacia plains merge into miombo woodlands, silvery breadths of baobab give way to panoramic rocky kopjes proffering views for days, and elephant herds dig for water in palm-fringed sand rivers. July to October boasts big buffalo herds and plenty of game; the park is rich in predators, and abundant in birdlife. Unusually, lion prey upon giraffe here, and it’s one of the few places you’ll see both greater and lesser kudu, blending like phantoms into the dry brush.
